In the wake of a failed school bond, a few things you may wish to consider when casting your vote on the South Kitsap School District's February 11th 2025 EM&O levy. And for those of you who want the latest on Jeff Wilson, former SKSD Board President, please read through this to refresh your memory.
As you know, Jeff Wilson was once a SKSD School Board President. Some of his more “notable” accomplishments included, but not necessarily limited to were:
• Trying to push for no oral public comment, but settling for limited public comment. As a result, you only get one public comment period a month versus the two the board allowed previously.
• Pushing through a slew of bad “board policies” to make the board less responsive to public comment; more power to the superintendent and district; more union control and pay; and questionable DEI, SEL, and other hired positions paid for by the local taxpayer versus the state.
• Despite knowing that due diligence had not been done on the proposed $271,000,000 bond (no feasibility conducted), he also ignored and discarded public input and desires; steadfastly allowed spreading of misinformation; a ll o w e d the district and board to promote misinformation for the sole purpose of trying to push an extremely questionable bond peppered with poor planning issues and coupled with a host of missives and falsehoods, and there were of course plenty of misrepresentations and omissions. All this ultimately resulted in possibly “One of the Worst Bond Failures in the history of the South Kitsap School District .
• Despite these failures, Mr. Wilson was unanimously elected by the board to continue on as their board president. Also and despite others being warned of his questionable decision making capabilities.
• Then .. he suddenly resigned in March 2024, supposedly to run for Kitsap County Commissioner but he never even bothered to file to run for that office.
• As his divorce unfolded, he sent emails to his “wife” threatening the lives of two members of the public as disclosed in public court documents. Statements such as: “I’m going to ‘take them out’ were sent via email to his wife. In those documents (extracted from his spouse’s divorce declaration) and other public court records) he admits to having ‘some’ sort of severe mental issues, ‘some’ going back to well before he left the school board.
• He was arrested and cuffed at a bowling alley in Port Orchard. He booked and consequently spent 3-days in jail before being arraigned for violating a “no- contact” order. Interestingly enough, and disappointing at best - he declared his net worth to be well over $1.6M (extracted from PDC filing documents) yet our court system somehow qualified him for a ‘free public defender' and of course at the taxpayer’s expense. His next District Court appearance is on January 29th at 9 a.m.
What is so disappointing about all of this? Where to start. Ironic that one board member consistently stated that the board was doing the wrong things for the district and the kids but he was totally ignored and castigated by the others.
Even in the face of facts and proofs of Mr. Wilson‛s issues, the board chose to blindly “follow” this individual, dragging down the board, the bond, the policies, and the integrity of the community. Yet, three of the board members you have now on this board were directly responsible for allowing this to happen. Stay tuned for new and even more disappointing chapters as they develop.
